I am a firm believer in challenging the status quo. From processes at work to the way I think about something in my own mind, questioning them can lead to improvement or acceptance. Personal growth, learning and adapting in all areas of my life is something that is core to who I am, here’s why.
Do you ever get that feeling that you’re stuck in a rut, like everything is a daily grind or you’re living Groundhog Day? Even when you are doing something that is your hobby or passion, that joy just doesn’t seem to be there. When I get that way, I want to change something. Do something different and it is usually because I am not challenging myself or growing.
Sometimes the changes we choose to make are big, like moving across the world, but you can’t do that every few months just to keep life interesting. So it is the small things that will keep you growing consistently, they are the daily watering or weekly fertilizer that will keep that sapling alive and of course the occasional pruning to keep it on course for the future.
The past 8 months have seen a lot of growth and learning for me, learning two new jobs, two new industries, how a new community works, making new friends. That has meant a great deal of change however the feeling of the daily grind is creeping in because now I am somewhere between Stage 3 and 4 of the learning cycle for most of that, conscious competence, it’s not as challenging.
The questions for me now are, what areas of my life do I want to grow in. What direction do I want to set? What standard in my life do I want to raise? Change can be scary, it can also be invigorating and I need some invigoration. Do you feel the same way?
